The shaft assembly shown in figure 1 is driven by a flat belt drive at location A and drives a flat belt at location B. The drive belt pulley diameter is Xmm and the driven belt pulley diameter is Ymm. The distance between sheaves is 800mm, and the distance from each sheave to the nearest bearing is 200mm. The belts are horizontal and load the shaft in opposite directions. Determine the size of the shaft using suitable fatigue criteria. Standardize the shaft diameter. Assume suitable material, factor of safety =2. Make appropriate assumptions for design. Write all your assumptions clearly. The values of different parameters X,Y,F1,F2,F3,F4 are given in Table 1.
