The prokaryotes comprise one of the oldest lineages of living things on Earth: the bacteria and archaea. Despite their importance, these single cellular organisms are sometimes difficult to characterize and are often ignored due to their being microscopic. Bacteria and archaea provide an excellent opportunity to study the relationships between members of a domain, however, due to their relatively simple morphology and genetics. For this unit's discussion: Choose one of the phyla of bacteria that we discussed in class, research a species from that phyla, and describe its genus in general and the role of that species. Make sure to include how the bacteria interacts with its environment and what features bring the members of the genus together. `Those were the phyla of bacteria that we discussed in class.
