STEEL DESIGN Exercise The plan of the floor and roof of an office building is shown in Figure 1(a). An elevation of the columns is shown in Figure 1(b). The floor and roof is a reinforced concrete slab, 150mm thick, supported by I-beam sections and I-beam column sections. Assume Grade 300W steel. In addition all external beams carry a loading due to the weight of a 280mm brick wall. The weight of concrete and brickwork is 24kN/m³ and 20kN/m³ respectively. Ignore the effect of wind loading. Exercise Determine and design as ECONOMICALLY as possible the beam and the entire column from roof to foundation level as indicated for you on the class list. The beams are laterally supported.
