Answer. 2- Fluid balance is maintained in the body through the processes of osmosis, electrolyte regulation, and the release of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) from the pituitary gland. Osmosis is the transfer of water from a region with low concentrations of solutes to a region with high concentrations of solutes through a membrane that is selectively permeable. To keep electrolytes and other solutes in balance, water is constantly moving between the intracellular and extracellular compartments in the body. Osmotic pressure, the force that propels water to flow from one side of the membrane to the other, controls the movement of water.Electrolytes are ions that are dissolved in body fluids and are important for maintaining fluid balance. Electrolyte levels are regulated by the kidneys, which excrete excess electrolytes in urine. The balance of electrolytes in the body is crucial for proper cellular function, and imbalances can lead to serious health problems.The pituitary gland releases the hormone ADH in response to variations in blood volume and blood pressure. ADH affects the kidneys, causing them to absorb more water and produce less urine. By conserving water when it's needed and removing surplus water when it's not, this helps to maintain the body's fluid balance.
