Question 2 Refrigerant-134a is the working fluid in the refrigeration cycle as shown in Figure 2. The cycle communicates thermally with a cold region at 0°C and a warm region at 26°C. The refrigerant flows with a mass flow rate of 0.05 kg/s. The relevant data at each state is indicated in the figure. The compressor and the expansion valve are operating adiabatically. (Expansion valve is a type of throttling device). Warm region TH = 26°C = 299 K Qout Condenser 3 Expansion valve P4 = 160 kPa x = 0.45 Compressor Evaporator Qin Cold region Tc=0°C = 273 K Figure 2 P2 = 1200 kPa T? = 60°C P? = 160 kPa Saturated vapor Determine: a) The amount of heat removed by the evaporator (in W). b) The amount of work consumed by the compressor (in W). c) The amount of heat rejected to the warm region (in W). 3 d) The COP for the cycle. e) The maximum COP of the cycle. f) Compare and comment on the COP in (d) with the maximum COP in (e).
