QUADRANGLE MAPS Most maps depict rectangular sections of Earth's surface, called quadrangles. A quadrangle is a relatively rectangular area of Earth's surface, bounded by parallels of latitude at the top and bottom and meridians of longitude on the left and right (Figure 7). The most common quads are the 15-minute series and the 7.5-minute series. This means that for a 15-minute series map, the area covered is 15° latitude by 15° longitude, or for a 7.5-minute series map, the area is 7.5° by 7.5°. A 15-minute series map is comprised of four 7.5-minute series maps. Look at both your topographic map. You will either have either the Ennis Quadrangle or the Bray Quadrangle map.
