Q1. Ponchon-Savarit Method \\( 100 \\mathrm{~kg} / \\mathrm{h} \\) of a binary feed mixture (Ethanol and Water) is processed in a distillation column. The feed is either saturated vapor or saturated liquid as shown in the attached table. Also, the weight fraction of the light boiling component (Ethanol) in the feed and in the distillate and the Pr point are listed in the attached table. The weight fraction of Ethanol in the bottom product is 0.05 . The below \\( \\mathrm{H} \\) - \\( \\mathrm{XY} \\) diagram represents the Enthalpy on ( \\( \\mathrm{Y} \\)-axis) versus the weight fraction ( \\( \\mathrm{X} \\) or \\( Y \\) ) of Ethanol on (X-axis). Enthalpies are measured in \\( \\mathrm{kcal} / \\mathrm{kg} \\). Note: \\( 1 \\mathrm{kcal}=4.1868 \\mathrm{~kJ} \\). - determine the number of theoretical stages for the specified separation \\( =2.3 \\) Q2. Stage -by-Stage calculation is used in designing the distillation column specified in Q1. - calculate the dew points or the bubble points of the Distillate and Bottom streams (assume the total pressure \\( 101.3 \\mathrm{kPa} \\) ). - find the compositions \\( (x, y) \\) and the temperature of the stage 1 from the top assuming that you have a total condenser. - What is the temperature change from stage to stage?\r\n
