Figure 1.1 along with the cross-section geometry.

a) Draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams for beam ABC using the graphical
method.
b) Find the cross-section centroid and moment of inertia with respect to the neutral axis.
c) Calculate the maximum tensile and compressive stresses in the beam and indicate their
locations.
d) If the beam material is stronger in compression compared to tension, what would be the
orientation of the cross-section that minimizes the chances of failure? As given or flipped 180°?
