The simplest amino acid is glycine, which has a single hydrogen atom as its side chain. With two hydrogen atoms bonded to the \( \alpha \)-carbon atom, glycine is unique in being achirol. Alanine, the next simplest amino acid, has a methyl group \( \left(-\mathrm{CH}_{3}\right) \) as its side chain (Eggure 2.7).
9) The structures on page 33-36 are drawn in a very old fashioned way where all the H's bound to carbon are shown. This is very cumbersome and there is a better way to do it. Compare this to Valine on page 33: a) Now draw the following in the manner I drew valine above: Tyrosine; Pro; K; Glu. In addition label their \( \mathrm{R} \) chains with a chemical property, such as hydrophobic, aromatic, etc.
