Lab 07 - Cells Prokaryotic \& Eukaryotic Introduction This lab will explore the structure and function of a variety of cell types. Through careful observation of a variety of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, you will: - compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells - identify the differences between plant and animal cells - diagram and label prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells - describe the functions of various cellular structures and organelles Procedure 1. Open the PDF file of images for this lab: Cells Prokaryotic \& Eukaryotic 2. Read about each cell in the description. 3. Print this Data Table and Sketches PDF and print your name on each page. If you do not have a printer, use plain white paper. 4. Fill out the Data Table on the first page. 5. Sketch each cell type on the second and third pages. In order to earn full credit each drawing must include follow these Guidelines: - Fill out the slide number and cell type - Draw at least a few cells of each specimen type. It is not necessary to sketch the entire image. - Label the required structures. You may want to use 1. Open the PDF \& fle or Imag Prokaryotic \& Eukaryotic 2. You may want to use the internet to research each slide further if you are unclear of the structures. - Use color 6. Place your picture ID (school or government issued) on the bottom of the last page of the lab. 7. Covert all pages to a single pdf file and upload to : Data Table and Sketches Upload. A free app to turn your phone into a pdf scanner is available HERE. Example of how to properly sketch and label a cell: DISCuSSIOn 8. Complete the Discussion portion below according to these Guidelines: - Handwrite answers on a sheet of white paper. - Covert all pages to a single pdf file and upload below 1. Name the two types of prokaryotic cells in this lab. 2. Name two structures that can be seen in the Allium root. 3. Are chromosomes visible in the Allium root? If 'yes' when are chromosomes present in a cell? If 'no' why not? 4. Describe the similarities and differences between a cell wall and a cell membrane. 5. Which are more abundant: red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets? 6. Name two of the cells (in this lab) capable of photosynthesis. 7. Squamous epithelial cells are very thin. Name two advantages that this provides for tissues made up of these cells. 8. Which cells have a nucleus: red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets? 9. Identify two structures found in plant cells that are not found in animal cells.
