Identify the IV and DV for this experiment. Loftus and Palmer (1974) wanted to test their hypothesis that the language used in eyewitness testimony can alter memory. Loftus and Palmer (1974) asked people to estimate the speed of motor vehicles using different forms of questions. Estimating vehicle speed is something people are generally poor at and so they may be more open to suggestion. Half of the people in the study were asked how fast going when cars hit. The other half were asked how fast people going when cars smashed. All people in the study then answered the question how fast car was going (speed of car).
