Figure 1. Challenges of Construction In construction project management, proper planning is crucial to the successful implementation of a project. It has been defined that "a plan" is a roadmap for your project, which will help you, guide the work from start to finish. One of the major causes of project failure is poor planning. Thus, it is very important for a project manager to prepare a comprehensive, logical, practical but flexible plan for his/her project. In doing so, he/she will face many challenges - he/she needs to think about the aim and objectives of the project, its feasibility, the appropriate procurement system and contractual arrangements and many others.
Based on the Figure 1 . Challenges of Construction, discuss the major elements under the heading of "Planning" and that a project management team has to consider when developing a "good" plan for the construction of a block of multi-million dollar 45-storey Grade A office complex in the heart of city centre of Kuala Lumpur which will likely to involve myriads of foreign consultants, contractors and specialist sub-contractors which may come from different part of the world with different language, work culture and business motivation. Thus, your discussion in developing a project plan may include the following: - Collaborative management process plan (graphically showing main relationships and tasks during the project duration) - Communications strategy - Responsibility for decisions and changes - Strategy for building trust - Conflict resolution strategy All points above must be clearly articulated, overarching and supported with relevant literature (i.e. referenced).
