Eg.1 A strip footing of width 3m is founded at a depth of 2m below the ground surface in a c?? soil having a cohesion c=30kN/m2 and angle of shearing resistance ?=35?. The water table is at a depth of 5m below GL. The moist unit weight of soil above the WT is 17.25kN/m3. Determine (i) Ultimate bearing capacity (U.B.C) of the soil. (ii) the net UBC (iii) Net safe B.C. Use F =3.0 \& General Shear failure condition. If the water table occupies any of the positions: (a) 1.25m below the base level of the foundation, what will be the net safe bearing capacity? (b) 1.25m below the ground level. Assume saturated unit weight as 18.5kN/m3.
