Consider the roof plan of a single-story single-family house shown below in Figure 2 with a flat roof and located in San Francisco. Consider a dead load of 15 psf, standard roof live load, and vertical wind loading.

(a) Compute the ASD design moment of purlin P1 considering all relevant load combinations and assuming that the purlin is simply supported. Provide both positive and negative design moments.
(b) Compute the maximum moment of girder G1 using only the ASD load combinations D + (Lr or R orS) and 0.6D ± 0.6 W. Assume that the girder is simply supported and report the maximum moment in each of the three load combinations and whether it is positive or negative.
(c) Using a glulam beam size of 6x22 with Douglas Fir-Larch species group and Stress Class of 16F-1.3E for girder G1, determine if the girder is adequate to support the loading given with the load
combinations in part (b).
? Consider only bending. Note that the design requirement should be satisfied individually in each of the three load combinations.
? Consider dry-service and normal temperature conditions, and no lateral-torsional buckling.
? L is from storage and the high-quality tension lams are at the bottom of the beam
