2 Bit Computer with 7432 or 7408 Logic Gate Chip 11/220
Abstract: The objective is defining the real life correspondence of logic gates applied to a two bit computer. Introduction: Changes within a system are evaluated over time (analog) or in regular intervals (digital). Digital systems operate on signals evaluated at periodic intervals. The signals are a series of On power, and Off power. The on power supply surpasses a threshold of 1.8-5V supplied and signals a HI interval. The off power falls below 1.8 V (typically 0 V ) and signals a LO interval. Logic gates are electronic devices using transistors that can take a combination of analog or digital signals and output a single digital signal. The signals conducted depend on the arrangement of transistors if they allow current to proceed or not. These signals put out are interpreted by a computer. A computer consists of an input which reads the signals produced from logic gates, and stores them as binary. HI represents a store of "I" and LO represents a store of " 0 ". A physical circuit is placed on an IC board, connected with wires, a series of resistors, 2 gate logic chips at minimum. The resistances will act as instruction for the logic gates. The logic gates will only conduct values as the transistors allow conduction of current. The current conduction will be visible with led lights, and connection controlled by two switches. Experiment: Tako a breadboard, connect the components to a 5v power supply. A logic 7408 or logic 7342 gate chip is inserted in the center of the breadboard. Insert two leds across the logic gate. 100ohm resistor is connected to the led and then connected to ground. Connect inputs with led with wire. Connect the switches to VCC and wires connecting to INPUT1 and INPUT2. Led is connected with OUTPUT1. Results
Discussion and Conclusion 7432-Quad 2-Input OR Gate and 7408 Quad 2-Input and Gate A quad 2 input uses four OR gates, It has 14 teminals, 7 on each side. Power is supplied to terminals 14 and ground to terminal 7. The terminals are 1&2.485,8&9, and 11&12 are paired inputs with 3,6,19. and 13 as their respective outputs. The 7432 OR gates means LO will conduct if no power is supplied. and HI if either or both inputs supply power. The 7408 is comprised of 4 and signals. The connections are 1&2,4&5,8&9, and 11&12 are paired inputs with 3,6,19, and 13 as their respective outputs. If one or neither inputs voltage then it will not conduct energy Each of these gates have two inputs which connect to supplied voltage, or 5 V, and a resistor each. Switches will be used to signal active connections. A pull down resistor will prevent a false power to the led indication. The 'real life' correspondence for Login Lo for Input1 and Logic Hi for Input 1 If LO and HI are used for input one then the 7432 will read HI. The gate is getting the power delivered from the power supply. The gate is set to allow all cither current to pass as total current and signals active on and send a binary 1. Input 1 has two terminals with one condacting power, and one not conducting power. This is indicated by the led lighting up which is connected to the resistors. The 7408 will take the LO and HI inputs, and the power supplied will not pass the threshold of voltage needed for the transistor to conduct. The led will illuminate as an indication of gate one active but will supply no light for the LED OUTPUT for the computer. The 'real life' correspondence of Logic Lo for Input2 and Logic Hi for Input 2 If LO and HI are used for input one then the 7432 will read HI. The gate is getting the power delivered from the power supply. The gate is set to allow all either current to pass as total current and signals active on and send a binary 1. Input 1 has two terminals with one condocting power, and one not conducting power.
The 'real life' meaning for logic lo and logic hi for the output As an output reads logic LO it means the gates are not allowing current to pass from the gates to the output. A 7432 will only signify a logic LO if no power is delivered to either divide which means no power is delivered to the system. The 7408 will not deliver power if no energy is supplied to the circuit, or if it only signals to one input to conduct power. The 7408 will signal HI if there is power supplied from both gates signaling a HI or 1 in boolean algebra. The 7432 will power on if either or both of these logic gates are supplied with power.
