A basic, idealised Rankine cycle has a turbine entrance of state of 700oC and 8 MPa.
The turbine operates isentropically to an exit pressure of 20 kPa (Note that this will produce a
turbine exit state that is a liquid-vapour mix).
The condenser exit state is a saturated liquid at 20 kPa.
The pump is isentropic.
a) Determine the work per mass output of the cycle, heat input per mass and thermal
efficiency.
The cycle is modified, as shown in the figure below, to include regeneration.
? You may assume that states 1, 3, 4 and 5 correspond to states 1, 2, 3 and 4 from (a).
? The turbines are such that the intermediate pressure is ????2 = 1,000 kPa.
? ???? = 0.3
? The closed water heat exchanger is designed such that state 7 is a saturated liquid at
????2.
i. Determine the enthalpies for each cardinal state of the modified system;
ii. Recalculate the work per mass output of the cycle, heat input per mass and
thermal efficiency, and comment.???????
