A basement with one external wall is shown in Figure 2 . The basement and adjacent spaces are heated continuously to maintain the inside temperature at \( 20^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \). The floor is made of \( 300 \mathrm{~mm} \) concrete with a floor level \( 3.5 \mathrm{~m} \) below grade line. The external wall is made of lightweight concrete block veneer \( (140 \mathrm{~mm} \) block and \( 150 \mathrm{~mm} \) gap) with a plasterboard finish. The outdoor air temperature is \( -7.5^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \). Figure 2. Basement top view (not to scale) a. Determine the heat loss from conduction through the internal walls. [1 mark] b. Determine the heat loss from conduction through the basement floor. [1 mark] c. Determine the heat loss from conduction through the below grade part of the external wall. [3 marks]
