1. Taylor column One day, David takes a walk to the shore of a small river: there he find that the fast-moving river close to the shore seems to have a pattern of "flow across obstacle". The river is dirty so he can only see the surface pattern (a pattern like the top pattern shown in the picture below). He thinks there must be an obstacle like a stone there so he inserts his hand into the surface of this pattern but does not touch any stone or so. This reminds him of the Taylor column picture shown below from his Climate Physics course. Thus, he concludes that this should be a Taylor column to explain this surface pattern. Is he right? why or why not?
